During Episode #1 of SEDA’s X Space Mini-Series, we thoroughly reviewed the current landscape of Web3 data. Led by SEDA CTO Jasper De Gooiijer and Subsquid CEO Dmitry Zhelezov, the discussion was split into three segments, including the history of Web3 data tech, projects’ solutions to current data restriction, and some bonus alpha on the potential for an explosive SEDA x Subsquid partnership.

A New Paradigm For Data Is Being Led By SEDA & Subsquid

Segment 1 | A Snapshot Review Of Web3 The Web3 Data Stack

Dmitry from Subsquid initiated the conversation by examining the evolution of data within Web3, starting with the Bitcoin Network’s initial simplicity. He identified the DeFi boom of 2019–2020 as a crucial turning point for Web3 data. He noted that developers required quicker, secure access to cross-chain data for practical web applications and improved user experiences. Speaking about the current state of Web3, Subsquid’s CEO also highlighted the need for consistent technology to address being able to batch data across different networks.

Jasper De Gooijer from SEDA echoed Dmitry’s sentiments while adding that to bring Web3 data infrastructure up to speed, we need to improve the ability to transport, query, and configure off-chain data. The current Oracle tech fails to scale horizontally and infinitely, a solution SEDA offers via its modular data network.

Segment 2 | Modular Data Networks & Ridiculously Efficient Data Lakes

Throughout the second segment of the discussion, both projects offered in-depth dives into the solutions they are building to the problems highlighted in segment one. Subsquid CEO spoke about how Subsquid removes the need for high-pèrformance equipment required to manage terabytes of data while allowing for high-speed data pulling from their indexers. The result is a very efficient peer-to-peer network to aggregate terabytes of data.

Dmitry spoke about one mechanism Subsquid uses: data is split into manageable “chunks” and distributed across their network. Each “chunk is then stored on multiple nodes, ensuring high availability. He highlighted how this distribution and management mechanic is incredibly efficient, like a “database on steroids” with “minimal overhead” that transforms Subsquid into a powerful tool for Web3 data management.

Jasper shared insights into how SEDA essentially upgrades access to data for any chain with a permissionless integration design. SEDA achieves this functionality through a dual-layer architecture. The foundational layer is a Cosmos chain, designated for settlement processes, including staking, slashing, collection, and ensuring data availability. On top of this, SEDA integrates an MPC layer, effectively acting as a Layer 2 (L2) solution, which executes queries and performs computations. This configuration enables SEDA to process data efficiently and enhance overall network performance.

Finishing the segment, Jasper shared the excitement of SEDA partners waiting for the mainnet launch to unlock unforeseen use cases.

Segment 3 | Unprecedented Data Technology In Web3 With A SEDA And Subsquid Partnership

Dmitry from Subsquid opened the third segment, expressing his enthusiasm for a future SEDA partnership alongside highlighting some recent powerful announcements from Subsquid, including their collaboration with Google Cloud. Both speakers pointed out that if you are building in Web3, you will probably need access to either off-chain data via the SEDA network or on-chain data in the form of Subsquids Indexer.

Both projects highlighted their permissionless & open-source code being available for anyone to integrate as a catalyst to driving various use cases via their solutions. Jasper wrapped up the segment by stating that a Subsquid and SEDA partnership would allow roll-ups to launch and access any data on the SEDA network, followed by reading data on any chain that Subsquid stores to drive essential interoperability from day one.
